The original garden was just a grassy steep slope and needed to be
terraced in order to create two levels (with interconnecting timber
steps). The plans had to include a hot tub. Hot tubs are never very
attractive; we softened the look using bamboo and other tropical plants.
We used a creamy coloured Travertine limestone for the paving. The
client liked its texture for its soft, contemporary look as much as its
anti-slip qualities for those going to and from the hot tub with wet
feet! We were also pleased with the stainless steel planters, each
topped with pebbles around the base of a simple standard bay tree.
The stainless steel up-and-downlights create ambient light on the
upper terrace and uplight each of the bay trees in a dramatic way.
In a few years, the planting around the hot tub will have matured creating a semi-tropical effect round the spa.
The original boundary fence is now clad with willow slats, creating a warm looking, natural and contemporary screen.
