Faced with a sunny (south facing) slope, the clients wanted a low maintenance ‘room outside' for relaxation and entertaining. The garden was developed on several levels; paving and pebbles, deck area and raised planting beds on two levels.
The planting is very contemporary, with very few varieties used; notably ornamental grasses and architectural foliage plants. Because the plot is south-facing, the slow-growing olive tree was added, giving the whole project a Mediterranean look.
The garden is lit throughout with discretely placed uplighters in most of the planting areas. The edges of the deck are highlighted by flush-mounted deck lights and a shade sail has been used to give shelter from the sun.
The existing fencing was very plain, so we clad it with bamboo, again adding to the contemporary feel of the garden in a relatively inexpensive way.
