Our varied clients are primarily within the private market. However, one of our more recent projects involved a design for a Community garden and play park, near Liverpool. It is intended not only to cater for the children but all the community and its groups.
We believe that each successful garden design responds to and enhances the “spirit of the place”. Our key role is to translate the wishes and needs of the client into a beautiful yet feasible design, so creating highly liveable social spaces.
Courtyard Garden, design Cheshire & Lancashire (Before)
The clients of this Georgian courtyard wished to have a more avant-garde design, which would contrast with the original stone and brick work.
Contemporary Courtyard, design Cheshire & Lancashire
The garden has been transformed by clean lines and bold forms, whilst paving has been utilised imaginatively. Natural sandstone and dark limestone slabs contrast in both size and colour, to create pattern within the floor plan.
Architectural planting has been given prominence by being raised within planting beds, whilst further height and structure is created through the use of two Olive trees. The raised beds have received a rendered finish and applied with a carefully selected colour. The contemporary stainless steel water feature raised upon a platform, provides the finishing focal point to this now enlivened space.

An open plan design with a great contemporary look, featuring a semi-circular brick path using clay pavers. The path sweeps along the length of the garden connecting to both water and soft landscape sculptures.
Water Sculpture
Large gardens are not required to achieve the magical sound of running water. Here a sculptural water feature and pool sit within the decking.

Cheshire
The landscaped grounds and mature planting create an identity and setting on a scale equal to the grandeur of the country residence. The enlarged stone and brick steps, sweep down to a generous level lawn, with equally generous planting beds.
Front Garden & Driveway, Cheshire
The planting is quiet and complimentary allowing the house to dominate the scene. Whilst a simple gravel drive is retained by natural stone sets.
Cheshire Garden, Views from the House
The level lawns and planting beds sit well within the Landscape so that the eye travels freely from the gardens to the stunning views beyond. Here Ceanothus and climbing roses frame the view.
Water Garden
Full advantage of the natural slope is taken by creating a series of interconnecting lakes and falls. The lakes are surrounded by dense, informal plantings. The varying heights, colours and textures of which maybe enjoyed from varying perspectives as one travels through the garden.
Urban Oasis
A garden near Liverpool successfully creates a jungle atmosphere. The variety of foliage forms and architectural plants have enlivened this green space. The large specimen plants aid screening and give this garden an instant sense of maturity.
The Ornamental Boarder

Dusk
Effective lighting can transform a gardens personality. It also extends its potential use for dining and entertaining well into the evening and night.
Lighting is importance for picking out features such as level changes. However, it is the back and up-lighters which create the enchanting atmosphere; taking ones attention to the varying textured surfaces and architectural plant forms.
Light & Shadow
As the evening turns to night the garden takes on a new dimension full of warm light and moving shadow. Patterns of plant forms play across the textured walls and entertain the diners.
Hampton Court
A garden created for The RHS Hampton Court Flower show 1998. This water garden was inspired by the native Australasian landscape and its rainforests. An idyllic pool set against rocky out crops with waterfalls and canopy of luxuriant foliage, over shadowed by delicate tree ferns (Dicksonia atlantica).
Reflective Pools
Reflection is a valuable asset of water features and adds a further dimension to the garden experience. Here dense planting creates an abundance of interest, through a variety of contrasting textures and forms as it falls towards the waters edge.
Curtain Waterfalls
This water feature in Cheshire features a naturalistic waterfall set between two large lakes. The falls construction utilises the local sandstone. It is softened by lush foliage, of contrast form and texture.
Natural Lakes
The mixed planting of shrubs and herbaceous give structure and colour to the banks of this lake, allowing it to quickly establish a sense of maturity. Sheltered seating is provided in the form of a Gazebo which is canterlivered over the waters edge. This natural lake was created using a liner; unfertile soil was then added to allow oxygenating plants to more quickly establish a colony. Adding aquatic soil is a helpful addition in the establishment of wildlife ponds. However, it is not a suitable practice for ponds with pumps and moving water.
Contemporary Steel Sculpture
A compact yet eye catching water feature and garden ornament (when inactive). This water feature captivates the viewer as water falls in sheets, shimmering along the curved steel sculpture.
Natural Streams and Gentle Falls, Lancashire, Preston
A naturalistic stream with a set of gentle falls is created to journey through the garden. The stream flows under a deck walkway and acuminates in a reflective pool, beside a pergola covered seating area.
Lakes and Waterfalls
A hidden pump allows water to course over a rocky out crop. It then tumbles into a large lake, which is surrounded by abundant planting. From this vantage point Iris’s dominate the scene, holding aloft deep blue flowers whilst the foliage stands erect and stately.

A nationwide government scheme has been initiated to generate positive contact between the general public and the community’s services, whilst making use of under utilised space. As a result of this we were involved in one of its first projects and designed the Community Garden and Play Park at Upton Fire Station, in Birkenhead.
The Design Concept was inspired by the near coastal location and the imaginative nature inherent within all children. The basic concept is of a group of children shipwrecked upon a tropical island. The remains of the ship upon the beach surrounded by tropical planting sets the scene.
Numerous features exist within the site including an adventure trail, beach hut, sculptures and play-pump. The play-pump is a roundabout an adaptation of a design installed in the South African region of KwaZulu-Natal. The project involves a roundabout that is ingeniously engineered to pump up underground water. Paying for a ride on this roundabout allows funds to be raised for further water projects in Africa.
